A card like this has somewhat limited applications, creating combinations with only cards that cite color. Included in Eighth Edition were the Western and Eastern Paladins, which can destroy any creature that is white or green, respectively. That makes this artifact a very straight-forward way of killing any creature, provided that it is not indestructible. You might also look at anything that has a "protection from color" ability. Using Distorting Lens on an opponent's creature will allow your "protection" creature to either go unblocked, or block without receiving any damage. Imagine that you had a flier with color protection, it would be able to absorb any blow from a single monstrosity, excluding unblockable and trample creatures (trample damage will carry over for the superfluous amount). This sort of thing won't be popular in "the big leagues", simply because trivial technicalities have been eliminated by spells that can clear the whole board. Again, in an appropriately restricted format, the tactic might regain its relevance. |
