Now this is the sort of thing that I'd like to see more of - A new version of the Terramorphic Expanse (Which later became the same card with a new name, Evolving Wilds) that allows you to immediately pull a basic land of any color, and enter it untapped. While the Terramorphic Expanse was somewhat useful in achieving my multi-colored goals, Fabled Passage was the real card hiding in that design. I notice that some of the cards that have been banned recently were banned for being highly functional - Precisely what I like about certain cards. Namely, I do not agree that Once Upon a Time or Veil of Summer should have been banned. Fabled Passage is the same sort of card, lending power to prismatic setups. I like things like that because it opens up creative possibilities that otherwise would have low functionality. You can't compromise functionality, at all, in the current state of the game. Perhaps, if there weren't so many omnipotent tricks possible in the game, I wouldn't need such functional enhancement, but as things are, it is the only way I can be competitive. I don't lower myself to things that I know to be unacceptable, so I won't be joining the parade of Godzillas during Ikoria, for example. I'd much rather play a humble, highly functional deck, that required me to use my own creative finesse to quickly resolve a solution to the ever-changing puzzle - But if Godzilla just stomps on everything I do with total impunity, it's hard to care about the some-times that I can pull off the feat. In my eyes, Godzilla never really wins, and his spoils are always a vacuous illusion. |
