Here's a card type that you'll want to think about - creatures with Flash ability. Being that this one is particularly large (largest in Standard today), it is potentially very valuable. I say that because using Flash does not incorporate the usual risk associated with casting large creatures - You can simply wait until your opponent's end step, cast your creature (provided he won't counter), and have all your Mana available at untap. That way (as you'll be using counter spell), you are ready and armed to defend your investment. With this card on the board, you may be in a position to finish the game. It allows you to buy a strike for 7 damage a turn (with Unblockable), or draw the extra cards you might need - You might consider going "all-in", and sacrifice your lands to deal this damage and finish the game. Your archetype might be a setup to achieve that result - Gain the position you need, and finish the opponent off in a few turns. The Unblockable ability is more valuable, for the cost, but if you ARE committing to an attempt at your opponent's life, sacrificing available swamps for draws might make victory more certain. The exile ability connects with Library destruction - Even if you aren't trying to simply run them out of cards, you can utilize the opponent's graveyard to return this card to hand. It combos well with Drown in the Loch, for that reason - So your archetype will ideally involve a fair amount of Library destroying effects. |
