Being that this card is designed to be used in conjunction with "milling" abilities, it would apply to something less conventional than the standard "run them out of cards" strategies. Because obviously, playing with a Flying 5/4 creature usually means you're trying to kill the opponent with straight-forward damage. The advantage of the card, then, would be lost on a deck that never really intended to do that. It might be useful for defense (if you plan on playing a limited amount of cards, keeping at least 4 most of the time), but the offense implies that it has a different intention. I might want to use this card with Black, White, Green, or some combination of the 3, because it has the ability to dump your own deck into the graveyard, where you might access it with resurrection abilities. Bringing back large creatures from you graveyard might be a good strategy, for example, since you already have a 5/4 Flier primed to attack once 7 cards are in the opponent's graveyard. So, regardless of its relationship with "mill" decks, this design is definitely suited to a creature rampage. Anyone who designed a deck using this card, and planned on winning with library destruction, probably missed the point. It might serve that sort of deck adequately enough to win sometimes (as I've seen it do), but the real archetype you should be shooting for will utilize a creature base to win. I might try something like this at some point, but honestly, I have my doubts about creative liberty in the current game. As in, I'm sure that I can construct something fun to play with, synergistic and effective, but only the most hard-core and destructive strategies are relevant right now. It often doesn't matter how intelligent you are, when anyone can copy the common hacks that have restricted the gameplay dynamic to an ultra-intense, highly volatile and chance-based mess. The cruelty of a "cock-fight" might be interesting enough to a hysterical mob to drive a continuing turn-out, but really! When will the "cocks" ever realize what those horrible people have been doing to them??? |
