The most obvious reason that you would use this card is for its ability to counter your opponent's ability to use sacrifice and life-pay, so it very well may be a great choice for the sideboard. Last year, the Witch's Oven/ Cat decks were huge, and this would stop it in its tracks. That said, one of the things that I don't like about the game right now is the necessity of these such cards. Those sorts of tricks shouldn't really exist in the game anyway, and we shouldn't need to rely on THIS CARD to counteract them. Then, to really stop that silly bullshit deck, you would need to be using green and white, and be able to travel back in time with your new cards. I still like Yasharn as a more reasonable x-factor, to contradict black spells, promoting the strength of these two colors (green/white). The land-grabbing ability that it packs is also nice, helping your deck get off the ground, and allowing it to be more capable of supporting the bigger monsters ans spells. One nice thing about legendaries is that they naturally dictate that you hold your card, if you were to draw a 2nd one. That way, when the opponent makes you discard, or you have an opportunity to sacrifice Yasharn in some worthy way, you can use the 2nd card as a buffer or replacement. The creature types may also prove useful, especially in Historic formats. We know of many unstoppable boars that lived before, and list of elementals in the game's history is ever-growing. |
